Founded in 1951, the first Kelly’s Roast Beef was opened in Revere, Massachusetts, on the beach by Frank V. McCarthy and Raymond Carey. They originally owned a hot-dog stand on the beach, and also worked at Paul Rogers House, a neighboring restaurant. When a wedding cancelled at the restaurant, McCarthy and Carey brought the leftover roast beef to their hot-dog stand, sliced them, put them on bread, and became the creator of the Original Roast Beef Sandwich. McCarthy and Carey didn’t want either of their names on the restaurant, so they named the business after their friend Tom Kelly, and we quickly became one of the top restaurants in Revere, Massachusetts.
Six decades later, we have five locations throughout eastern Massachusetts serving great food to families and visitors almost daily. Many of our locations including the one in Saugus, Massachusetts, hold fun family and kids’ nights, so find one near you.
This Kelly’s has a summer live cam so you can see what’s happening right at the beach! Check out the views here.
